Yes. It's usually set to restart on 70 degrees. If the senzon drank a bit too much, he will show over. I have 90 degrees, since it's considered pretty much when things really take a wrong turn. At 100 degrees physical cpu failure will occur (meldown usually). On graphic cards, that's really not a problem. Believe it or not, when i bought a 6600gt long ago i was looking in through the driver and i saw that it slows its frequencies at 145 degrees. I was sick asking everywhere because my video card should have been in danger. And some guy showed me video cards operating normally at 130 degrees. Later found out heat is really a small concern for video cards.

On xbox360, it's the worst. If it gets the "3 led failure" [that is overheat], it becomes a junk. While it's a complete comp with dual-core included.
I hate that a fan have to be always near the console, just to be sure the 3led won't lit up:/

On the contrary... Intel are more fiable. When you'll see an amd overclocking on +70% with no problems on an average mobo, let me know.
Unfortunately for amd fans, intel hit the jackpot on both quality and performance.

And about breaking intels... Intel were always more fiable than amds. Intel was the first company to actually include high safety measures so that their cpus won't explode in extreme cases (this was what? 10+ years ago). Intels would just restart, while with the amds you would directly see "no signal input" on the monitor. They would just crack or fry.

i know that this post is very old,but 10+ years ago(12-15) AMD MADE THE CPU'S FOR INTEL!!!!!
So AMD technology,Intel marketing.

mate, sry, but there were times when Intel sucked and AMD was better, atm it's oposite, and this thing is called COMPETITION!!!

I had 2 AMD based computers since now,and i was very satisfied with it,my neighbours Intel,didn't had the graphics i had,tough we had same video card(FX 5500 256 MB/128 bits) and closed processors(AMD 2400+ Athlon/P4 2.4)
Now i have this PC AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
GeForce 9600 512 MB
4gb RAM
320 GB HDD Seagate SATA
And i can always rely on my pale AMD,about overcloacking, screw it,for L2,music,movies,Internet,chat,and even new games u don't need overcloacking

I read sometime ago,in a PC magazine, that AMD always had the best technology, and Intel the best marketing,i guess that having a better marketing will be always in your advantage.
So i think that in 1-2 years we will see the AMD's counteratack, and they will be in the top again, untill Intel counteratacks again and so on.
After all,all of you Intel fans should know that an Intel always lets you down, but an AMD is more durable, and I almost forgot,as i sayed,AMD made the Intel processors untill 12-15 years ago(i think).

AMD fan 4 ever!!

i dont rly care about this AMD-vs-Intel battle, i always choose CPU what's better for me, and Intel was better in teh past 2-3 years and still is

what CPUs can u see in notebooks at most? Intel Atom, not AMD
for gamesmengz0rz u don't need suppa overclocked 4-core cpu, the most important is gfx, cpu freq means sh1t in games ...
in the last 2-3 years was Intel always a step ahead AMD
in addition AMD cpus have way higher power consumption

Intels disadvantage is that u need motherboards which are a bit more expensive

There are lots of new notebooks with AMD Turion processors and if I'm not mistakeing, there is also an notebook processor from AMD,Phenom, wich is quad, triple core.

Intel fans,watch this http://www.youtube.com/v/JeFyUiV6gxI

You're right. AMD has a greater power consumption and heat because of their older architecture. Intel now uses the 45nm architecture, while AMD is only sampling them. AMD has been a tough competitor before Intel's conroe (core 2 duo) core.
Back then, Intel was trying walk on thin air until they finally realised that high frequencies don't mean more power for the next generation, because of the exceeding heat and power consumption. I remember my friend's old prescott at 72 degrees in full load, factory settings. So, Intel made the smarter choice to go for more instructions. That hit the jackpot on core 2 duo.

And it's still kicking.

I'm waiting to see how will AMD will kick Intel's ass :D

There's about millions of test AMD vs Intel and in most cases, Intel is the better. AMD prefers safety [office-use], Intel prefers performance.
