Usually i'll say "go search" but still i'll give somew tips...
for starters all u need is Karmian and Homu + acu or a crystal staff + mana up or any C wep with mana up. this is the basic set for u and for the dyes u can go like -int+4wit+4men-str+con. if u wanna help ur summon in combat take a focus dagger and bw light, but i dont advise u to do that, just stick to healing the summon.
At lvl 61 i advise u to get tallum robe for the m def agaist nukers, comes in handy. Mj is good to for the stun res. and dc for p def. the last 2 sets u will use them more against fighters.
The main idea is to leave all the DD to the summon and u shouild raise ur def and hp.

From 40 to 48lvl as a new sub Warlock I went to Branded and spend 1 day there with Kai, Karmian Set, Homu+Acumen and dye +dex+con-str +wit-int. It's fine, Kai do his job even with 4 mobs at once, and doesn't die. Nevertheless I noticed the cubics work way too rare only when you call them with smth like Wind Strike or Blaze. But as I tryed to both hit the mob with homu and heal kai, each mob I hit get paralyzed at 1/2 HP. And as someone here mentioned, tryed to hit once, and keep the target, but cubics didn't do anything. Which means you have to hit hard, but you get rly good bonus from cubics. Any clue how it should be, or I gotta search for weapon with Haste SA for PvE ?:)

Well in gracia[private though] the cubics of mine automatically activated whenever an agro mob was in close, I didn't even notice and when I turned back, I saw the little witch paralyzed:D
However it seems the if you target something, the cubic goes for the target, if nothing, then randomly.
Til 52, I didn't put up any dyes and used cat only after 44.

Also, the cubics' rareness cannot be affected by anything.
