well since shield defence works for magic skills to its better to have a higher sdr so you can get smaller damage and also dc gives more hp when your healed and if your with a healer next to you agains a nuker you this
1. you get smaller damage then normal because you have a higher sdr and you "block" almost every nuke
2. your hp is regenerated faster with fewer heales because of the set which means either the healer can heal you for a longer time or he can root/sleep/mana burn the nuker

its kinda of a strage setup not very popular but teoreticaly it should work

Azure, since you don't know much about this subject, i suggest you go into l2calc and set up an sk let's say (or any other tank). Give him full buffs and full equip (don't forget jewels and shield), and check his mdef. Open up combat calculation tab and in the middle it sais: "mdef on shield block". THAT is why in full buff an sk (damage oriented tank) has some good odds of killing a nuker. As you see, you get shitloads of mdef on a shield block.

And this is not a hellbound thing, in interlude it was available. Not sure about the earlier chronicles tho.
