Also good point, but they say they will open beta on 100 Discord users, which I think is quite reachable since it's growing nicely already

Yea, exactly!
We did set a low Beta number so people can test things out early!
We're already working on our server and it should be ready by the time we have the said discord numbers!

But I have to agree 1000 members is quite ambitious, hopefully we'll be able to reach the numbers!

I never liked having to use a 3rd party program to connect with gm's or admins. Gm's should be in game and why have a forum if you use discord? All this instant gratification is mind numbing.

If its a well oiled server and the gm's are knowledgeable most problems should be fixed while the user is online. Plus you can always drag him/her to the GM consulting area and chat there.

But I wish you luck. Hope you get that 1k on discord, and your server does well.

Well I think main reason of Discord is simply because it's popular, lot of people just use it daily for other stuff so it's easier to stay in touch with them. I myself prefer forums as well, but it is what it is :P

Just because it is popular doesnt mean its good. Then dont forget in game a lot of clans use voice software to co-ordinate their raids etc. So now you have Discord, Skype and Lineage ][.

Granted the game is so old it can be played on netbooks. But I was never a fan fave of using 3rd party programs on top of the game. It pulls you out of the role-playing. And discord really sucks in my opinion. Just waiting for someone to hack it and get all user info. I do not like the pay to make your channel popular stuff and all the gimmicks.

Not saying I like it either, but what I mean to say is that there's not a whole lot anyone can do about it, every server I've seen in past few months (or years really) automatically have Discord as their main communication channel. I myself have always been a solo player, but I know clan people always used programs like Ventrillo or TeamSpeak, Discord is often used for voice communication too, so it's just another step forward (or sideways if you will ). You don't need to share too much personal information on it either so you can't get much stolen either :P

They have also integrated Discord into the l2 server.

Discord Bot
# https://discord.com/developers/applications/
# Use the link above to create your discord bot and there you will find the info needed for (BotToken =)
# Create a discord server and activate Developer mode. (User Settings->Appearance->Developer Mode.)
# Developer Mode exposes context menu items helpful for people writing bot using Discord API.

# See also https://discordpy.readthedocs.io/en/lat ... g-your-bot - on how to invite your bot.

The main reason I dislike discord cause it bothers me for money to support the channel. It reminds me of P2P servers.

It is unfortunate that NCsoft never incorporated voice software into the game. One stop shop.

I'm not much of a programmer type, what exactly does this bot do? I'm having trouble imaging how can a Discord bot be integrated into L2

I have never used it. I just run a server for myself when I need to let some steam off.

So when can people expect the OBT, in a week from now, in two weeks, a month? You don't have to set a date, just a rough estimate. Also will there be any custom npcs to help us with buffs and quest items etc?

Tbh I never liked using ventrillo/teamspeak or other programs ever since I started playing L2, and I didn't consider myself old when I was like 15 years old
