Hello there. We are a young team of java developers and we plan to create a l2 server. The platform we will use will be, most certainly, l2j, at least at the start, since it's our first project. But we can promise you that we are dedicated and we'll try to do things in the best possible way. (Yes, we are aware of the bad impression people have about l2j, and we'll try to change it)
That's kind of enough for the introduction, let's get back to the topic question.
What kind of server would you like to play? What chronicle, what rates, what features?

We have in mind this project : high + low rate servers, HB chronicles, retail-like features for both of them (this means no mana potion on high server, no full buff NPC and stuff). Problem with our setup for the high rate server may be that few people show interest for such great features.

most balanced platform is Hellbound (H5 in oly), but all severs rerolled on gf/h5 PTS, because of good files leak.

I still believe that some people will make HB low rate (max x12+/-) server, but as we know russians are russians. They can give us best files, best competition, so H5 is the latest fashion.

First of all,i wish u all the luck for ur upcoming projects.
Now,if u open a hr server with retail like features aka w/o mana pots u should be aware (as u said) that these kind of servers are doomed to fail cause of the retarded l2 community.About lower rates i am not sure if this would be a success either cause of the f2p offi not to mention the ru servers with off files.
What i would like to see and play would be a hr h5 server w/o mana pots,new pvp areas (not the usual ones that every server applies),low enchants (max 10/16),balanced farming for the new and old players,custom innovative events such as 9 vs 9 (certain classes but random players),rb jewels available for everyone or remove them completely,small vote rewards,weekly oly.I dont mind full buffs at buffer cause playing support classes in a hr server is beneficial only for group players and not the solo ones.You can add balanced donations as well (+2 higher on enchants but not more).
What i wouldnt like to see is custom armors,custom stats of armors,custom nerf of skills such as cancel and sd (would be great if they worked retail like and apply a custom effect to return the stolen/cancelled buffs after 2-3 mins),starwars server with high enchants and endless farming.
You should know that any hr srvr with such (awesome) features wont have more than 150 players (sadly).

Thank you for your interest so far. I'm aware of how the l2 community sees HR servers (endless examples of bad servers with high population) and I am aware that, because of the awesome features we will develop, population will be relatively small on the HR server.
But, as everyone knows, one of the goals of a server is to make it profitable and fun in the same time. Having low population kills both, that's a fact.
We may do something different, for example make a "starwars" server to get some money on our hands, so we can afford to keep the other ones online with relatively small population. But, of course, that takes time.

Still waiting for more answers.
And yes, about the hi5 chronicle, I think there are so many servers running hi5 clients out there that it's very hard to make a name in them, especially if you'll make it HR.

Personally I disagree with the low rate. There are far too many official low rate who are for free. L2j no matter how much fair and good you are , it is not official.

Don't get me wrong. I love low rates, but people have the choice there, they know that non-officials will go down soon or later for many different reasons, whether that`s the income of their server or 1000 more reasons.

If I was to make a server, I would try to build up a mid-high rate, like x40 maybe with free class change.

And most important make sure that my staff is not playing into the game for whatever reason.

Hope this helps, even if much of it seems unrelated at first.

I think we don't know enough about ourselves (and others), and about the world we live in.
So, the reality is: we are all stupid, and most of us are greedy (for different reasons, but mainly because of some powerful people).
Example:
most Lineage 2 players think this game is about being more powerful then others, and that the most important goal is killing.
How about going fishing with your friends in game, and talking about stuff? Or how about the role-playing clans?
How about events, that don't involve killing like... fishing competitions? Why fishing? Well, how many other choices do you have, that don't involve killing? Not many, and that is a problem with many games these days.

Most likely, everyone here is pretty much the same. After all, we are all people, and we live in the same era.
That would mean, that the best way to come up with an answer, is to do a research on your own, and compare different sources to assure the reliability of your research.
So what would be your assumptions, the things that you don't have to ask anyone?
1. We don't like to just wait (life is short). We always want to do something.
2. We like different, but not too many options. Too many options promote procrastination, worse choices, and less satisfaction.
3. We hate not enough choices.
4. We love fun.
5. We like to see progress.
6. In lineage 2, just as in real life, we are influenced by other people, our past experiences,
colors, and sounds. So far, Lineage 2 doesn't include touch, and scent (although some players claim, that the goblins stink).
7. We are all 2 in 1: good and bad. Sometimes we are/want others to be nice, and sometimes we're tired of it.
But I think there is a balance in this, and we are all constantly trying to achieve it. And it has to do with groups too (see the end about groups).
8. If we lose control over our emotions, we take action, but we can rarely foresee the consequences of it (because, again, we are stupid).
9. We like respect.
10. We love funny surprises.
11. We love (possible to win) challenges.
12. We love riddles (probably because of no. 11). I have rarely seen ANY riddles in games, and I have seen many games of many kinds.
13. Preferences change with experience and knowledge. What we want in one moment, changes in the next moment.
I think we like antagonistic pairs, eg. sweet and sour, slow and fast, loud and soft/quiet, or... high rate and low rate, faction server and non-faction server etc.
14. We hate to be forced, but we often like to be convinced.

I think people are about groups. Probably, everyone can be assigned to a group of people, given some context. For example: music. Some groups like classical, some like rock etc.
Or... some people like to play one character, some like to play two classes, and some like to to play even more classes around the same time.
Some like offense, some defense, and some support.
IF you add mana potions to a server, you will not see many people, who like to play as support characters, but you will see more people playing classes, that rely heavily on mana.

c4-c6,10x-30x,nice economy,crafting/spoiling/role playing is essential ,stable english speakin server, low ping, nice community, lot of online ppl,NO GM SHOP AND NO NPC buffer,sieges,heroes, no donation for power, no corruption,stuff like that. It's kinda like Dragon-network, nightmare server back in the C4 days.
