So I was looking for some weapon recs and someone was selling the full weapon only. That got me thinking, what if dwarves could reverse engineer items? It would be a hybrid of crystalizing and enchanting. You would use the reverse engineering function (similar to crystalize), and it would have for example 1/3 chance to succesfully create the recipe for the item. Should it fail, the item would crystalize (similar to enchanting).

Do you guys know any server with such feature? And what do you think about the feature?

Sounds interesting, but it would be a pain to code and implement for the most part. I've never seen a server that has even touched the crystalization system, or even the crafting system beyond making custom recipes.

I'm sure it can be done but I still don't see much use for such a feature, other than being able to dismantle items for their core materials if you happen to get a full drop that you don't really need or want.

It's definitely something to think about though.

Yeah that would be pretty cool :) But as Hagen already said it would be probably just too much coding, and as far as most people are concerned, the weapon sale -> material purchase or crystalization -> crystal sale -> material purchase works alright

But as I said it would definitely be damn cool. Especially when you get a full drop of a weapon that's hard to sell (Like Elemental bow... It has a lots of good mats in it, but because of the 'very slow' speed you'll never sell it as whole :?)

Of course it can be done for mats too, but you guys seem to have misunderstood me. I was talking about getting recipes for the items out of them, not mats. In real life the point of reverse engineering is to dismantle/destroy a thing to figure out how to build more of these things using the technology/material you have available at the time. In L2 it means giving you the recipe.

I'm not sure if I fully understand - if you already have the full item, why would you 'crystalize' it to get only a recipe out of it?

I know I'm missing something but I'm not sure what it is :D

Duh, because with recipe you can create infinite amount of that item. Cant you see the difference between only one weapon and thousands of them? Of course L2 really sucks at logic so some high grade recipes require 2 recipes to craft, which must be adressed somehow. But I guess youve got the idea now. There is a tradeoff between one real weapon and (if youre lucky) infinite amount of potential weapons.

Oh right, I was automatically thinking the 2 recipes items... Well in that case I suppose it would have to give some mats back as well at certain rate for the dual recipe stuff :)

Or just remove the need of 2 recipes altogether. Makes no sense anyway.
