Hello everyone! Thank you for taking a look at my post! I have played Lineage 2 before, as well as a few other MMO's. I really love certain aspects of Lineage 2, such as the open PVP. However, one of my big concerns of the game is what seems to be the lack of diversity and difference between my toon and yours, besides (1)the money put into the gear and (2)the time put into leveling and getting gear.

With that being said, I will go into detail a bit more. The lacking in the actual character diversity is that here is no skill tree nor the ability to distribute 'skill' points to certain attributes or skills. And there doesn't seem to be much skill behind using the skills either.

The lacking on the gear/weapons part is that there are sets of armor only, from what I know. You will not just randomly find 'The bards bracers of luck' and the next minute find 'Jia Fre's Flaming Helm'. So getting armor seems to be a matter of buying them or going after the raid bosses, but there aren't hundreds or thousands or random pieces of 'rare' and 'uncommon' pieces of armor. The same seems to be with the weapons, for the most part. So the lack in diversity here, is that there are guided 'ranks' of armor that each person will inevitably follow AND that there doesn't seem to be much weapon and armor enhancements, modifications, or otherwise.

So to boil it all down, it seems to me that if I set my lvl 60 and your lvl 60, of the same class, with the same armor and sword, there would be no difference besides how fast each person pressed each attack and some minor weapon enhancements. Is that so? What differentiates each persons toon from the other?

I haven't played in a while and didn't ever play for long, so I may not be right about some stuff. Please liberate me! I want to like this game and play it! :D haha

Thanks a lot!
Take care!

you're wrong then...Try 60 TH against 60 TH and you will see that some1 is better, the best difference can be seen at daggers cause it needs some skills for fast moving behind enemy etc.

But both of their stats would be the same, right? Not including buffs or potions.

And both of their skills would be the same?

The only difference would be the gear and weapons, right?

Buffs, equipment, dyes, weapon augments, elemental resist, talismans, OEd skills, choise of user in order of the actions/skills, also user's internet connection/ping etc...Add a small factor of randomness (lucky crits, skill failure) and you got pretty much everything that can affect pvp between two same class same lvl chars.

l2 is a grindy game, but u don't need epic items to be able to pvp. (well nowadays u need, but back in the days where l2 still exists, u don't)
so "skill" comes in when u have low items but good playstyle and u can win the guys with better items.
it's still better than wow and aion, cuz u don't have to search for "Buddha's Lost Golden Finger" to give u +10000 hp and other shits.

about equal vs equal, it's what Taygetus said.

I mean stats that are unrelated to the gear. So when I grow a level I don't have the ability to choose where my attribute points or anything, such as putting points into str, def, agi, ect., depending upon how I want to build my character and how I want him to fight. They also don't have a a kill tree such as this > (mediaDOTgiantbombDOTcom/uploads/0/6657/1174965-skill_tree_finale_super.jpg)

So I guess what I am saying is that, from my knowledge, you can't actually customarily build your character. So for example, two NAKED lvl 5 warrior elves would have the same stats (minus the gear!!). Same health, strength, defense, ect.

If that is the case, that is what I am worried about. You have no ability to choose to put 'skill points', if you want to call them, into strength so that I have more overall stronger damage or attack speed, or put it into vitality, if I want to have more health. And as I stated up there with the skill tree, although they have a class tree, two people who follow the same tree will produce the same characters (again, minus the gear). Without the skill tree and assignable skill points, there is nothing but attacking things and getting experience. It seems as though the game is mainly a matter of time.

It is Lineage 2, not Warcraft or God knows what else, and it is motherfucking best (at least, it used to be).

what about dyes? ^^

and you can play different classes in different ways, maybe not all but some of them, you can enchant skills in different routes and in different order so you won't have same good sides as enemy does etc etc

ofc, it could be done like in diablo II, where when you were playing assasin(or smth, dunno translate from my language) in end game you had to get exact items to matter in pvp, and ur main skill become one from other class, lvled to max by other items, and it was fail.

in l2 in endgame there aren't 2 same chars, most of classes are very versatile, ofc you can't do miracles with nuker, but tanks, tyrant, summoners...

example:

for tyrant you can go for -9 dex and make it a skill spamming meat wall, and also you can add dex, wear very different items, and rape ppl w/o using skills, with just crits

But without gear, what makes two of the same lvl 70 classes different? :)

L2 is a gamethat requires little to no skill to be ABLE to pvp. The (player) skill difference is visible when they fight, even if one has worse gear than the other. The difference between characters is almost none. That's the beauty of the game imo. I hate games that dont allow u to get all the skills u want. I preffer a game with 40 different classes where each has its own flavour, and where I can get all the skills within that class. A game with 4/5/6/10 classes where they are just basic and generic and u have to go out of ur way to chose the "OP" skill build instead of the one u enjoy the most, just so u can win. This makes L2 less competitive and I like it. It keeps away the anrgy raging 10 year old americans and sends them back to WoW where they belong.

The "skill" required to be successful in L2 is not combat skill, its mainly management skill. Its a grind fest and the best player is the one with more money generally. Combat skill only matters as it has been said, when a player with lower lvl/gear faces a one with higher ones.

Nowadays there many more customization options than in previous chronicles. U got shit loads of enchant routes, elements, noble vesper, augments on jewels and all that crap that NC threw in there to attract WoW rager kids cause they think it will bring them more money, when infact all it does is make the game an even greater grind fest to get all the 1000000000000000 stones and little shits u need for ur character to have any chance

Thank you for the answer I wanted! But I don't think the features that you are talking down are bad.. and definitely not just from WoW.

I find games with skill trees to be very interesting, e.g Titan Quest, but the concept of skill tree's is basically a feature of western games, not korean games like L2 is.

Alrighty, thank you. This is an off-topic question, but are all the quests pretty much kill X, deliver X, collect X, etc? Or do the quests become more intricate?

I am going to PvP, but besides PvP, does it become repetitive and boring when soloing, doing quests, and traveling? Is the game comprised mostly of repetitive grinding?
