How much does gear actually matter in Olympiad compared to player skill on High Five?

Is it still possible to compete without being fully geared, or has that era passed?

Imo skill matters much more on High Five than it mattered on older chronicles (after all there's tons of new skills that you need to master and understand how to counter), but ofc you can't expect to do much in DC against full attri Elegia +10. And then of course there are chars where good equip is absolutely necessary (like nukers, which essentially need to burst people down in most scenarios) and then there are chars where your skill can make up for an inadequate equip (summoners for example)

True, nothing makes you lose faster than a lag spike right when the gates open. But regarding the gear question: I think the gap is smaller in H5 than in later chronicles (GoD+). If you know your enemy's cooldowns and counters, you can still win against +10 sets, unless you are playing a pure damage race class.
